Cause of Loss
Cause of loss is the event or condition that produced a claim, and establishing it is what identifies who may be liable in subrogation.
Every recovery starts with the cause of loss: the fire's origin, the collision's sequence, the water's source. Determining it points to the responsible party and the recovery theory. In property claims especially, the cause is often physical evidence that must be preserved before it can be examined.
